Payal Kamat

Payal is a policy and government advocacy professional based in New Delhi, India. She led civic engagement, product advocacy and partnerships for Twitter in India and the South Asia region, working closely with central and state governments, election commissions, political parties, and nonprofits. She forged strong partnerships around social media usage for governance and public service, and provided front-line support-building processes pertaining to trust and safety and content moderation.
She has close to 15 years of rich experience in government advocacy, political advocacy and communication. Prior to Twitter, she worked with the Indian Political Action Committee, where she led political campaigns in the state of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Punjab, focusing on voter mapping, campaign design, and candidate advisory. She led the media and digital campaign wing at I-PAC and was responsible for policy communications from the candidate's office.
Payal has worked with various Indian Members of Parliament on the MPLAD project implementation as a special duty officer. She also worked for Google India on Google News and had a stint at Network18 as a trainee political reporter.
She earned her Master’s Degree in Politics and Communications from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
When she is not working, Payal enjoys long-distance running and trains for marathons. She also has a keen interest in Indic languages and is fluent in 6 Indian languages.
